ITEM:  HISTORICAL COMMISSION - 6/18 Lancaster Avenue, Wynnewood, The Palmer, Class 2, 2019-R-28

Consider for recommendation to the Board of Commissioners approval to make alterations to the site and building to improve drainage. Work will involve the following:

 

  1. Widening an existing under-grade areaway, creating a new retaining wall below grade with a railing at ground level;
  2. On the building façade below grade, several double and single windows will be replaced with double and single doors matching existing materials and designs and retaining existing opening widths, brickwork and details.

 

On November 25, 2019, the Historical Commission recommended approval of the application, with further details and elevations to be reviewed by a subcommittee.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

The Historical Commission referred the following items to a subcommittee:

 

  1. A building elevation showing the first and sub-grade floor shall be submitted indicating the elevation of the new coping stone for the retaining wall, the height of the hedgerow, and the height of the railings.
  2. The applicant shall submit product information on the new doors and railing;
  3. The Commission would request that the new pointing be more sympathetic to the rough rubble wall rather than the decorative pointing around the windows on the City Avenue elevation.

 

Should the applicant not be satisfied with the subcommittee’s review, they may come back to the full Commission for their review.
