ITEM:  HISTORICAL COMMISSION - 742 Argyle Road, Wynnewood – Torah Academy – Class 2 - 2017-R-5

Consider for recommendation to the Board of Commissioners a proposal to construct a two-story addition on the northwest corner of the historic school building, replacement of all windows in the school, new lighting, new fencing to surround the property and enclosure of the disused “ceremonial” front entrance (facing Argyle Road) with recessed windows.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

On Monday, March 27, 2017 the Historical Commission recommended approval of the following:

1)     Exterior fencing as submitted in black. The Commission finds that while the fencing is extensive, it does not impact the historic resource in a permanent way.

2)     The stained wood enclosure for trash containers.

3)     The exterior lighting, including both new and original fixtures to remain.

4)     The entrance addition, as submitted, with materials, fenestration and colors as previously reviewed, including blue backlit lettering. Staff to review materials and details prior to the issuance of building permits. Applicant has agreed to submit a cut sheet of the specific storefront system being used, and a photo of the new material samples against existing brick.

5)     Jeld-Wen Epic extruded aluminum-clad wood double-hung and fixed windows, as submitted, with site review by a subcommittee to determine final perimeter moldings and sill accessories. The applicant intends to match fenestration to original historic patterns. Also, the subcommittee will determine the final plane within the wall that the window will register to, recognizing that the current replacement windows had been set in a different position than the originals.

6)     In-fill of the original monumental entrance facing Argyle Road, with recessed enclosures and detailing as previously reviewed on February 27, 2017. The monumental steps will be retained with no alteration.
