ITEM: HISTORICAL COMMISSION - 101 N. Merion Avenue, Bryn Mawr College, Bryn Mawr, Class 1, 2018-LD-22
Consider for recommendation to the Board of Commissioners approval to construct a Student Life and Wellness Center and make related improvements to the campus.
On February 25, 2019, the Historical Commission recommended approval of the proposed new building, finding that the new construction would have a limited impact to surrounding historic resources.

The Commission would strongly encourage the College to explore additional methods to re-use, re-purpose, or re-invent the Cartref building. The loss of such a resource, listed on the Inventory or not, would be a deep loss to Bryn Mawr College, its history, and the community it fosters. In addition, the Commission would strongly urge the College to document the building if it is demolished, and to provide those documents to the Lower Merion Historical Society. |
