ITEM:  CERTIFICATE OF APPROPRIATENESS - 15 Rittenhouse Place, Ardmore, Ardmore Historic District, 18-16

Consider for recommendation to the Board of Commissioners approval to replace four decorative windows on the first floor of the front façade. The windows have round-tops with arched muntins, and are double-hung. The proposed windows would mimic the fenestration but be fixed single panels. Existing sills and trim are to remain. Exterior trim and sills of all other exterior windows would be capped with white aluminum bent on-site to fit.

On July 3, 2018, the HARB recommended approval of the submission, with a recommendation that the owner consider the restoration of the existing four first floor front façade windows, which would likely result in a cost savings and would maintain the original fabric. Capping of the window sills, jambs and heads on the sides and rear of the building is excluded from the HARB’s review, though the HARB notes that it has concerns for the maintenance of the original fabric behind any capping. Regarding the front facade windows, only sills and no other trim are to be capped. The HARB cites Secretary of the Interior’s Standard 6.
