ITEM:  RESOLUTION - KEYSTONE GRANT FOR GLADWYNE LIBRARY

Consider for approval a resolution authorizing the Township Manager to submit a grant application in the amount of $60,000 to the Keystone Recreation, Park and Conservation Fund Grant to partially fund improvements of the Gladwyne Library.

 

RESOLUTION

 

WHEREAS, the Township of Lower Merion has the legal authority to apply for a Keystone Recreation, Park and Conservation Fund library grant (“Keystone Grant”), and the institutional, and managerial skills and the Gladwyne Library has financial capability (including funds sufficient to pay the non-state share of project costs) to ensure planning, management and completion of the project described in the application; and

 

WHEREAS, the Township and the Board of Trustees of the Gladwyne Free Library, owners of the Gladwyne Free Library, are engaged in preparation of an Agreement to allow for the Township to apply for grant funding to support the library’s project; and

 

WHEREAS, the Library has contracted engineering and maintenance experts to develop design specification for the non-routine maintenance; and

 

WHEREAS, the Library and Township staff carefully reviewed the improvement plan for non-routine maintenance of the Gladwyne Free Library, and recommended that it be approved in concept for the purposes of applying for the Keystone Grant; and

 

WHEREAS, the Board of Directors of the LMLS has reviewed the improvement plan for non-routine maintenance of the Gladwyne Free Library, and recommended that it be approved in concept for the purposes of applying for the Keystone Grant;

 

NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved that the Township directs and authorizes the Township Manager, as the official representative of the Township, to file a Keystone Grant application in the amount of $60,000, including all understandings and assurances contained therein, which are attached, and to act in connection with the application and to provide such additional information as may be required to assist the Township in carrying out the improvement plan for the Gladwyne Free Library. The Township also agrees that the property will serve undisturbed as a library for a period of at least 50 years.
