ITEM:  CERTIFICATE OF APPROPRIATENESS - 557 Barrett Avenue, Haverford, Haverford Station Historic District, 18-13

Consider for recommendation to the Board of Commissioners approval of a modification to the height of the roof on the front and side elevations, and for the approval of revisions to previously approved window replacements. 

 

On May 1, 2018, the HARB recommended approval of the following:

 

1) To accept the raised roof on the front of the house, subject to the new shingles being installed to match the plane of the existing shingles;

 

2) To form a subcommittee to work with the contractor to assess retrofitting the windows to come into compliance with the approved windows;

 

3) Prior to the issuance of a Certificate of Occupancy, the applicant shall submit record drawings showing the exterior elevations as built.

PUBLIC COMMENT
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

Applicant appeared before the HARB in July, 2017 for a rear addition and side mudroom addition. During construction, the roofline of the rear addition extended above the peak of the front-facing gambrel roof, which differed from the plans presented and approved. The front gable was then altered to match the height of the addition.

 

The windows specified and approved in the July, 2017 application differed from those installed. The HARB found that the windows could be retrofitted to come into compliance with their standards and appointed a subcommittee to work with the contractor.
